As of this writing we are under the twenty hour mark before the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Kickstarter comes to an end, and it can be by all accounts considered successful. They are still about $800,000 shy of being fully funded, but with the money raised they have enough to produce nine brand new episodes of the commentary film series. Previous funding announcements included the fact that Jonah Ray, podcaster for Nerdist and the Meltdown, will be the new host, Jonah Heston. Comedians Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn will take over the voices of Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo respectively. And Felicia Day will be playing Kinga Forrester, the new Mad.
Adding to these announcements is the stunning, perfect and spectacular news that Patton Oswalt will be playing Day's Henchman. Oswalt was originally approached by Joel Hodgson to be a guest writer for the show, but smartly opted to move the comedian in front of the camera once funding allowed him to do so. News that Hodgson was looking for predominate guest writers suggested more amazing announcements, and more amazing announcements we now have. Contributing insults and mockery to the series in a "guest" capacity will be Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, of Rick and Morty; Community, Parks and Rec and Lego Movie Sequel director Rob Schrab; former Simpsons writer Dana Gould; The Name Of The Wind author Pat Rothfuss; and pop culture nostalgia aficionado and Ready Player One novelist Ernest Cline. Frozen song writer Robert Lopez will also contribute a song or two.
Depending on when this posts, there may be a few hours left in which to contribute. Or maybe not. either way, we're still getting 9 new episodes, and that's the best Christmas gift we could ask for. All that's left now is to announce which movies they'll be skewering.
